Slams Head to Desk: Frustrations of a Writer

I posted two chapters recently, as I'm sure any readers of the blog have seen.

First, I posted Part Twenty Two of The Properties of a Rose, and it has only two reviews. And I've gotten a lot less reviews from my usual reviewers than I normally do, even though I'm updating more regularly/frequently lately.

Then I posted Chapter Seven of Closer to Heaven Above, and I've not gotten a single review for it. I just don't understand. I don't understand not having at least a few reviews. I know that Percy/anyone isn't exactly a big pairing in fanficiton, but I would like to know how I'm doing from those who do enjoy Percy/Audrey.

It's frustrating because I have no idea how I'm doing if no one tells me. Besides, it really dampens my spirits. Luckily I'm a little bit ahead in both stories (at least a chapter ahead in writing each), but I don't feel motivated to edit those chapters with the little responses I'm getting. :( I just want to know what people think, that's all. :/

Do you think maybe I posted at a bad time? Is there an effective time to post? A time that that maybe helps us get more reviews?

Ugh.

Yours & Frustrated,
Kate/RP

Progress, How I Love Thee!

I definitely wrote a full chapter today, just for the heck of it. The Properties of a Rose, Part 24 is re-written from the load of dung I wrote before, and it is now so so so much better! :) I can't wait to post it for you all; I feel like it has really accomplished some of my goals and is setting up room for the others to be accomplished in the future.

Yay for progress! :)

Anywho, just wanted to update you all on my progress with the fic, as I am rather proud to have some chapters ready to post as soon as the staffers are back from their much deserved holiday!

Thanks, and please check back soon for news of an update!

xox,
Kate/RP

PropOfRose Update--Where I am in Writing

Hello, readers of The Properties of a Rose!

While the HPFF queue is closed (and trusted authors are not permitted to post either), I decided that I would write to my hearts' content. I got all the way to Part 27, and I was so excited to have written so much. And then I realised something: It was all crap. Utter crap.

For some reason, I had taken the story in a new and totally different direction than I had planned, making an already "bad" character into an "evil" character--which was not at all what I had intended. I'm very sorry to say that Parts 24-27 were not at all what I really wanted for this story. They have been cut, and I'm starting fresh from the end of Part 23, using only the parts of the following chapters that keep with my original intentions.

In some ways, I am incredibly mad at myself for getting carried away with a plot that I didn't really think through. I knew it was making this story much darker than I want, and yet I wrote it anyway. But then again, I feel like I learned a bit about what I want my limitations to be for each character, you know? Like I don't want Hugo to lose his absurdities, as that's what makes him so endearing to both myself as writer and Rose as his sister. And I don't want Rose to lose site of her spunkiness, even as she finds a softer, sweeter side of herself with Scorpius. And more than anything, I want to expand Albus to make him understanding and more mature, yet still goofy and over-caring for the people he loves (IE his cousins and sister). And Louis will never, ever lose his goofy t-shirts. ;)

Anyway, I'm still ahead of the game, and I've still got time to get further ahead in the remaining days that the queue is closed. I just wanted you all to know and understand what I've been going through--this fiction will not divert from the style it was originally; I enjoy writing it too much to change it drastically.

I also want to thank you guys and gals so so so much for sticking by me with this fic! I really really appriciate all of the reads (over 33,000!) and reviews (278!) that you've given me--all of the support and patience you have shown. If it weren't for many of you and your dedication, I probably would have quit writing this fic long ago. Thank you for encouraging me to go on. :)

You readers rock!

Thanks, and please check in for updates after the queue reopens!

An Unwrapped Gift to Readers

Well, I've been working on and thinking through the next bit of The Properties of a Rose, and I'm now editing Part Twenty Two. Because I feel so blessed to have such loyal readers and reviewers, I thought I'd give you all a bit of a gift... *drum roll please*... A bit of insight into what happens in this next update!

Part Twenty Two includes:
--a fuzzy pink diary
--the quote, spoken by Rosie: "You’re acting like a stupid tart"
--some good, cousinly advice
--a little insight into Hermione's accomplishments in her adult life (from my POV anyway)

I hope this gets you excited for the chapter to be posted!

Thanks so much,
Kate/RP <3

Update to be Posted in a Few

Allrighty, folks! I'm about to post Part 21 of The Properties of a Rose, in which Scorpius talks to Rosie about the odd happening in the Great Hall with Ada, the gang bonds a bit with Scorpius through humour, and Albus is acting like an idiot boy (then again, aren't all 17 year old boys acting like idiots at some point?).

The chapter will be posted in a matter of minutes, and I do hope you enjoy!

<3,
Kate/RP

PS: Keep checking back here for more updates on my stories and the progression--maybe even a few sneak peeks into the future chapters of The Properties of a Rose! (I might even post a sneak-peek today or tomorrow into Part 22!!)

Getting Deeper into the Fic

As you all know, I started college this past fall, and I've been really really busy. However, over Easter, I've had a break to work on some fanfiction and do some reading.

Basically, I reread The Properties of a Rose as it's been posted on HPFF and updated by posting chapter 19. I think that I owe you all a sort of update on my actual writings, so here it is, a list of some tentative plans for the next few chapters:
-develop deeper relationships between characters, specifically:
*more in-depth work with Rose and Scorpius
*some establishment of Jeanette's role as friend to Rose and love interest to Albus
*further introduction to Rose's family, including more analysis of Hugo and her parents
*work on the Slytherins (Ada, Arvin, and Barney, specifically)
-get some new plot developments to keep it interesting by:
*introducing more headgirl duties for Rose (such as Hugo's latest gobstones scheme)
*making Christmastime roll around
*having a Hogsmeade trip
*working on another match

Some of these things will begin to be seen starting with Installment 20.

Please check back here for more information, and feel free to leave comments to discuss the fic with me! :)

Thanks for reading,
Kate/RP

PS: Happy Easter!

We've hit over 20000 reads for The Properties of a Rose!

Thank you so much! You guys are awesome!!

Ho Ho Ho--A Christmas Gift for Readers

Updates are coming, so Merry Christmas readers! Updates for several stories are either in the works or being posted today. =) And here are a few sneak previews, too!

To Be Updated Today:
The Properties of a Rose: Part Seventeen

Ewww! Dad won Witch Weekly’s Sexiest Man Award again!” Lily tossed the magazine a metre away from her in disgust.

I laughed. It was a nice change of topic, and I was going to run with it. “That’s just wrong. Uncle Harry isn’t a man, he’s… Uncle Harry!”

Roxie picked up the magazine. “They should’ve picked Bernard Lindale… He’s so sexy.”

Louis grimaced. “Now that’s wrong, Roxanne. Talented keeper? Yes. But he’s a total wanker when off the pitch.”

The Cursed Skull: Chapter 2: The First Occurrence

“Can’t we get any closer?” Freddie asked, getting impatient with the snippets of information we had received. “I want to see for myself.”

Rosie shook her head. “Only Lily has been able to sneak in and out of the crowd.”

My younger sister Lily was incredibly small for a second year. Whenever we used to drop something under the couch at home, we used to send Lily fishing for it, well, until Mum caught wind of us doing it. Mum wasn’t fond of us “using and abusing our little sister for her size.”

And suddenly I saw her red hair coming at us through the sea of students.

To Be Worked on Over Winter Break: [Chapters for these stories are a work in progress as you read, and I am hoping to get at least 2 of these stories latest chapters posted while on my winter vacation.]
Closer to Heaven Above: ch. 4
The Truth About Peter: ch. 4
Call Me Bright: ch. 2
Failing History: ch. 4
Summer Daze: ch. 5
Sailing Away: ch. 6
Albus Potter and the Hidden Secret: ch. 5

Okay, there it is. Keep an eye out for the chapters posted today, and, like I said, I hope to have at least 2 more stories updated sometime before mid-January. =) Thank you guys for sticking with my stories!

Merry Christmas,
Kate/RP

Hugo's T-shirt Design

Hello, wonderful readers! Because it's been a very long time since my last update on any of my stories, I thought I'd treat you all to a little surprise.
In The Properties of a Rose, Hugo has been given the task of being the captain of the school Gobstones Club. Being the driven boy that Hugo is, he has come up with a T-shirt design for the club.
This is his T-shirt design (it will be mentioned in part fourteen, which is currently being written and will be posted shortly). Comments are welcomed!
Also, because you all are the lovely readers that you are, I'm giving you a challenge. Whoever comes up with the best name for a Japanese Magic School will have their name appear in the story. =) You can post your idea for the school in this format in a comment:
Your Penname/Review Name:
Your First Name:
Your Idea(s):
Thanks, and enjoy the design!
xox,
Kate/RP

My WIP Fanfics

I'm just going to post a list of my work-in-progress (WIP) fanfictions for all readers to see. =) I will post their title, rating, and summary.

The Properties of a Rose: (Mature) I, Rose Weasley, had an enormous, eternal crush on a Malfoy. The world would end if anyone knew.

Call Me Bright: (Mature) Dominique, younger sister to the beautiful Victoire and older sister to the intelligent Louis, knows she's nothing special. But with the help of a good friend and a budding romance, can she come to realise that she's just as special as her siblings?

The Truth About Peter: (Mature) I think I’m ready to begin on my seventh year. It was a year of confusion, loss, and treachery. It was the year in which darkness began to cloud our friendship. JK Rowling has shown us one side of Peter, and we all know that he betrayed his friends, but what caused him to do this? What change in his life created the need for him to join the Death Eaters?

Failing History: (Mature) Dominic Larson is your average, popular seventh year. He loves girls, likes his friends, and enjoys the occasional broomride. But after winterbreak, he learns that he's failing his History of Magic class, and he must get a tutor. But Nymphadora Tonks isn't the tutor he had in mind.

Summer Daze: (Mature) Sirius and James have been stuck in James' grandmother's house near the shore. The only magical people around are the two of them, old Grandmother Potter, and Laura--a shy, socially awkward girl that they're stuck hanging out with. This summer is sure to be awful--at least, that's what the boys think, but the summer seems to be getting more and more eventful as the vacation wears on.

Sailing Away: (Mature) Lily Evans was the epitome of perfect. Head Girl, top student, and a beautiful young witch. She had a fiery personality that matched her flaming red hair. But she begins to sink further and further into the shadows, sailing far from reality when a tragedy happens within her family. Is there any way Lily can turn around and sail home or will she forever be sailing into the horizon of nothingness?

Albus Potter and the Hidden Secret: (12+) Albus Potter is just like his father—brave, loyal, and has that tiny knack for getting into sticky situations. During his first year at Hogwarts, he and his friends realize this when they uncover a secret that was never meant to be found.

All of these stories are in progress right now. I have not updated many of them because of lack of inspiration, but I promise to finish them. I'm trying really hard, I swear. Updates will come to you as soon as they are written.
